At the age of 8, in 1989, Clay moved with his family to Boise and graduated from Boise High in 1999. With his parents he moved to Athens OH for 1 year before returning to Boise, where he went to Boise State part time, and worked a series of jobs before settling on carpentry as a career. In 2008 during the housing crisis, when carpentry jobs were scarce, he moved in with his parents in Lawton OK, where he returned to school and earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Cameron University in 2010. After graduation, Clay spent some time in Florida before returning to Boise, where despite his college degree, he realized that his true calling was finish carpentry. As a carpenter, Clay excelled and worked up the ranks at Precision Design until his untimely death.
Clay was an avid sports fan, passionately following the Detroit Red Wings, Pistons, Tigers and most importantly his beloved Detroit Lions and Michigan Wolverines. Watching sports on TV was one thing, but Clay was not shy about finding ways to see his teams live. For example, arguably his trip of a lifetime, was traveling with brother Sean and best friend Josh to have Thanksgiving dinner at Grandma Dunn’s as an excuse to see the Lions at Ford Field in Detroit on Thanksgiving Day and then to see the Wolverines take on the dreaded Buckeyes at the Big House in Ann Arbor that Saturday.
Clay is preceded in death by maternal Grandparents Arthur and Gertrude Connolly of East Islip NY and paternal grandfather Thomas Dunn of Wixom MI. He is survived by paternal grandmother Edith Dunn of Wixom MI, his parents Michael and Patricia Dunn and brother Sean Dunn of Boise ID. And equally as important, an amazing group of life-long friends from Boise and beyond.
Family and friends are invited at attend a Celebration of Life for Clay on Saturday, 26 April 2025 at the pavilion at Ivywild Park (416 W. Ivywild St. Boise) from 3:00 to 7:00pm. Food and beverages will be provided as well as a chance to reminisce and celebrate the life of Clay that was cut too short, too soon.
Clay did not have children of his own, but he was ‘Uncle Clay’ to many. Therefore in lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation in Clay’s name be made to The Boys and Girls Clubs of Ada Co. If you wish: The link is:

Then go to the Donation Page, and you can dedicate whatever you wish in Clay’s name.
Clay has been cremated, and his ashes will be scattered at a time and place to be determined, except for a small sample that will be kept until his beloved Lions make the Super Bowl, as he would have no doubt wished.
