August 23, 1931 – October 26, 2025
The family of Colonel Ronald P. Hight, USAF (Ret.), is saddened to announce his passing at the age of 94. A kind, strong, and deeply devoted man, he truly lived a long, full, and wonderful life. We are profoundly grateful for all the years we were blessed to share with him.
Born in Davenport Iowa, and raised in Long Beach, California, Ron spent his final years settled at Lake Martin, Alabama, where he enjoyed boating and playing a regular round of poker with a close group of friends. He passed away peacefully and comfortably at Grandview Hospital in Birmingham. A month prior, he broke his hip and, though he fought bravely through the subsequent complications, his strength gradually began to fade. We are deeply thankful for the compassionate care he received from the extraordinary staff at Grandview, who supported him and our family throughout this difficult time. In his final days, he entered hospice care within the hospital, surrounded by the love of his family.
Ronald was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jeri, with whom he shared 63 beautiful years of marriage. After his career, he and Jeri traveled together with their beloved dogs for many years in their RV, exploring the vast beauty of this great country before retiring peacefully together in Sequim, Washington. He is survived by his three devoted children, John, Susan, and Richard, who were by his side when he passed.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 27 years, retiring with distinction as a Colonel. His career, a reflection of his deep sense of duty, discipline, and integrity, included a tour in Vietnam, where he served on C-130s. After his military service, he managed the Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) for 17 years in West Palm Beach, Florida, overseeing the shuttling of military personnel to Andros Island in the Bahamas. Beyond his military and civilian careers, he was a loving and supportive father who always provided for his family. His quiet strength, kindness, and unwavering love will remain with us forever.
We will not be holding a public memorial service. We ask that you keep him in your thoughts and remember him as he lived: a kind, strong, and full-of-love man. We also kindly request no flowers or gifts.
With love,
Rick, John, and Susie
