

Mary Anne Sharrow of Jacksonville, Alabama passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2026 at the age of 80. She was born on February 2, 1945 in New York. She earned a Juris Doctorate from Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles, California and was admitted to the State Bar of California on December 21, 1977.
She later earned a Ph.D. in Cellular Biology from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. She was recognized for her extensive research in neuro glycobiology and was affiliated with the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia at the time of her retirement. Following retirement, Mary enjoyed gardening, 5K races, red wine, dark chocolate, classical music and watching the New York Yankees.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Jonathan (Don) Calvert III, her parents, Earl Francis Sharrow, Sr. and Doris E. Gilbert Sharrow, her brother, Earl Francis (Ray) Sharrow, Jr., and her stepdaughter, Emily Waddell-Calvert. She is survived by her stepson, Steven Libby, his wife LaySim and their son, Ansel.
Appreciation is expressed to Legacy Village in Jacksonville, Alabama, as well as to the physicians and nurses at Gadsden Regional Medical Center in Gadsden, Alabama for the care and compassion shown to Mary.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Jacksonville City Cemetery in Jacksonville, Alabama with Chaplain Michael Yates officiating.
