Warren passed away at home surrounded by the love of his wife of 55 years, Judy, and daughters Ellen McCarty and Sharon Nelson. He will be remembered as a quiet, gentle, loving and wise husband, father and friend.
Warren was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Dr. Virgil Warren McCarty and Marjory Louise McCarty (Kennedy). He lived in Mission Hills, Kansas until age 5 when the family moved to Kansas City, MO. Warren attended Pembroke Country Day School (now Pembroke-Hill) for grades K – 12. He played on many school athletic teams until basketball became his main sport.
In 1955 he moved to California to attend Stanford U. for 2 ½ years. After moving back to Kansas City Warren worked and saved until he could continue his college courses. He graduated from Kansas U. In 1964 Warren returned to California and lived in San Francisco. Although he left Kansas City we always said he “he left his heart” there always rooting for the KC Chiefs. He also was a fervent follower of KU basketball. He worked for the Contract Surety Bond departments of many insurance companies. Warren earned a MBA from Golden Gate U.
In 1969, Warren met Judy Wicke in San Francisco and they were married in 1970. They lived in the San Francisco Marina and could bike ride directly from their apartment through the SF Presidio and across the Golden Gate Bridge into Sausalito. In 1972 with eventual hopes of starting a family, they moved to Belmont, California where they have lived since.
Warren was predeceased by his parents and half siblings John (Jack) McCarty, Larry McCarty, Marjorie Baumgardt and Jean Moretti. He is survived by his wife Judy, daughters Ellen McCarty and Sharon Nelson, son-in-law Chris Nelson and grandsons Carter Nelson and Henry Nelson.
His immediate family plans to scatter his ashes under the Golden Gate Bridge.
