Trena Hernandez was born August 11, 1941 as a second generation native San Franciscan. She passed away August 3, 2023, just prior to her 82nd birthday and after a long illness. Trena had a sister, Toni, (also deceased). She is survived by her daughters Lori & Janelle, son-in-laws Alan & Liam grandchildren Aaron & Gabriel, brother-in-law Don and his children Michelle, (and husband Kenny), and Michael.
Trena’s first child Lori, was born premature at 31 weeks, when she was the young age of 20. Trena returned to work six weeks later to help support her growing family. Her second child, Janelle was born three years later and Trena once again return to work. Trena started her college education at three nights per week when her children were in elementary school. First attending City College of San Francisco and then transferring to USF, while still working full-time. She completed her degree in Business administration in 1984. She was the first in her family to obtain a college degree. Doing so while being divorced, (1983), and raising two children on her own. While Trena started her carrier as a secretary for the State of California, she worked her way up to be the manager of the department and worked there for over 35 years.
Trena was often the life of the party, with a funny joke and a drink in her hand. She loved her City by the Bay, the 49rs and the Giants. She had a group of friends referred to as “The 4 bottoms.” (herself, Pat, Penny & Kathy). They attended many SF Giants games, Spring Trainings and All-Star games. Trena also had 49r season tickets until their move to Santa Clara. She attended two Super-bowls and a World Series. Trena traveled to Alaska & Europe with her daughter Lori and her family. She had many happy memories of visiting with her daughters, her sister Toni & husband Don and their children Michelle, Michael & Tim, (deceased), as well as the 4 bottoms. Trena will be missed by her family and friends.
Trena’s health was not the best her last few years. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Fraternal Order of the Eagles, (a Social Club Trena enjoyed being a member of), on August 26th, 12:30pm at 185 Visitation Ave. Brisbane.
