December 26, 1950 – June 14, 2026
Rebecca "Beckie" Urrutia-Lopez, born in San Francisco was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on June 14, 2026. She was 75 years old.
Beckie embraced life with curiosity, compassion, and a love of color that touched everything around her. Her home in Santa Clara reflected her truest self, warm, vibrant, and full of creative spirit.
From 2000 to her retirement in 2017, Beckie poured her heart into Foothill College as Director of the Cooperative Work Experience (CWE) Program. Her commitment to students extended further as an Adjunct Faculty member at both San Jose State University's College of Education in Special Education, and Foothill College's Adaptive Learning Division.
Beyond her career, Beckie was known for generosity. She always wanted to help others, whether collecting goods for a family going through hard times or lending her voice and energy to protect those who were vulnerable. Her creativity found expression in many forms, from keeping bees and arranging flowers, to sewing, making cards, and crafting mosaics. Mosaic work brought her much joy. She taught mosaic classes at her home, sharing her love of the art form with others. Some of her other artwork were displayed at venues including San Jose State University. She traveled whenever she could and wherever, drawn to both the ocean and the woods, and found beauty and stillness in the natural world. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she loved every furry creature she ever met, especially her cat, Hazel.
She is survived by her daughters, Kristin and Sofia; her grandchildren, Jack, Ava, Esmé, and Luna; her siblings, Ronald, Kurt, Guy, and Michelle.
She was fierce, kind, and deeply loved, and she will be profoundly missed.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date for the family.
