Philip Michael “Mike” Mullan passed peacefully on March 28, 2026, following complications from a courageous battle with cancer. Born and raised in San Francisco’s Noe Valley, Mike spent a full life living, working, and raising his family in the Sunset and Richmond Districts in “The City by the Bay.”
The eldest of five children, Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Felix “Phil” and Mary Mullan, and by his siblings Marybethe and Thomas “Mark” Mullan. He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Jerilyn Mullan; his children Jennifer Donery (David), Michelle Mullan, Cait Mullan; and his beloved grandchildren, Sinéad and Cavan Donery. He is also survived by his brothers Matt (Rosanne) and Marty (Tracey), along with many extended family members and good friends.
A graduate of St. Philip’s School and Sacred Heart High School (Class of ‘66), he served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and earned a bachelor’s degree in history from San Francisco State University before beginning a successful career with United Parcel Service. He started working in the UPS warehouse before moving into management, serving as a Feeder Manager and later retiring as a Labor Relations Manager after 31 years of dedicated service.
Mike enjoyed traveling, sharing stories over a well-made old-fashioned, and cheering on his hometown teams, especially the San Francisco Giants. Above all else, he loved his family and friends and found immense joy in being a grandfather. Sinéad and Cavan could always count on their “Pa” for a cookie, a hot chocolate, and a new book, just as his own children once did.
Mike will be remembered for his sense of humor, warmth, integrity, loyalty, and deep devotion to the people he loved. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him, and he will be profoundly missed and forever loved.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 20th at 12noon at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 725 Diamond St. at Elizabeth St. in San Francisco with reception to follow at The United Irish Cultural Center, 2700 45th Ave. at Sloat Blvd., San Francisco.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
