Harry H. Minkey, known as Hank to all who knew him, passed away unexpectedly on October 16th. Hank was born to Harry and Linda Minkey in Los Angeles on September 2, 1965. He moved with his parents to Chicago and New York before they settled in Foster City in 1968 where he spent his childhood years playing baseball and soccer, becoming a talented skate boarder and surfer, with surfing becoming one of his life-long passions.
Hank graduated from Serra High School in 1983 after attending Foster City and Bowditch Middle schools. Hank was well known by everyone he encountered with many boys crediting him with their own love of surfing.
Hank was what many would consider a “renaissance man.” He became a sponsored surfer by such companies as RipCurl, Victory, Cowboy and Miramar surfboards. He went to San Diego State where he was on the surf team and a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. During this time he was discovered by a modeling agency and spent his early twenties modeling and traveling in and out of the country, spending time living in Japan and Mexico. He also discovered his love of motorcycles during this time, specifically his beloved Harley’s.
Hank became involved in the world of real estate following in family footsteps where he became a top producer in title insurance. He stayed in the industry for over 15 years when an opportunity presented itself to own his own business in the restaurant world. He opened the Sandwich Spot in the Marina where he became the man of the neighborhood. People loved their food, and loved the guy who was there daily and always remembered everyone’s name and what their favorite order was.
Hank left behind hundreds of friends all over the world. He lived his life to the fullest and to the envy of many. Hank leaves behind his beloved sons Jonathan and Bobby James, daughter Sade and their mother Jesica McIntyre. He is also survived by his mother Linda, husband Charlie Maguire, sister Jennifer (John), nieces Isabella, Giuliana and Giancarlo Selvitella of Foster City. He will be missed by countless family near and far as well as so many people whose lives he touched who will never forget him. He is predeceased by his namesake, father Harry Minkey.
There will never be another Hank. We thank everyone for the outpouring of love, support and awesome stories so many of you have shared.
