March 20, 1970 – May 26, 2026
Ellen Jean Tung, a devoted wife, loving mother, and faithful servant of her community, passed away on May 26, 2026. She was 56 years old.
Born Ellen Jean Schmalzried on March 20, 1970, in Wabash, Indiana, she was raised on her family’s farm. In 1993, she moved to California, a move that would define both her career and her beautiful family life.
That same year, Ellen joined Oracle Corporation. Over more than three decades of dedication and grace under pressure, she worked her way up through the company, ultimately serving as the Liaison to the Board of Directors within the Legal Group. She was highly respected by colleagues and executives alike for her integrity, kindness and professionalism.
Ellen and Jay Steven Tung were married in 1995, and together, they raised their family. Ellen’s greatest pride and joy were her children, Jason and Megan, to whom she gave her endless love, wisdom, and support.
Ellen’s faith was a central pillar of her life. She was an active parishioner at St. Gregory Catholic Church in San Mateo, where she selflessly served her faith community as a Eucharistic Minister. Her warmth, kindness, and spiritual grace touched everyone she met.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Eugene Schmalzried, and her stepmother, Cathy Schmalzried.
Ellen’s legacy lives on through her survivors: her husband, Jay Steven Tung; her son, Jason Larry Tung and his wife Amanda; her daughter, Megan Loo Tung; her mother, Shelby Smith; her brother, Rick Eugene Schmalzried and his wife Andrea; and her faithful companion pet, Belle, who brought her immense comfort and joy.
Remembering Ellen
For those who have asked how to honor her memory, Ellen’s heart was always with her faith community. If you wish to make a gesture, a donation to St. Gregory Catholic Church in San Mateo would be a meaningful reflection of what she loved.
The family plans to hold a Celebration of Life later this year. If you are interested in attending or simply wish to share a memory with the family, please contact the family and/or leave a response on this platform.
