Born in Brooklyn, New York, on August 31, 1935, Anne Marie was raised in St. Albans, Queens, by her loving parents, Francis and Anna Lange. One of seven children, she shared a lifelong closeness with her siblings—a bond filled with laughter and deep affection that remained strong throughout her life.
In her twenties, Anne Marie set off on a great adventure to San Francisco, where she built a career she truly loved and forged enduring friendships with many wonderful colleagues. She later made her home on the California coast in Montara, a place that reflects her appreciation for beauty, nature, and simple joys.
A devoted mother to her daughter, Gabrielle Peterson, and a cherished grandmother to her beloved granddaughters, Ella and Josephine Vetrone, Anne Marie found immense joy in her family.
In her retirement, she delighted in simple pleasures that reflected her generous and nurturing spirit—rescuing kittens, tending her garden, corresponding with friends, and surrounding herself with the books she adored.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Brian James Peterson, her partner, George Saams, and her son, Joseph Peterson. Though she experienced great loss, her resilience, warmth and compassion never faded.
Those who knew Anne Marie will remember her for her intelligence, kindness, and the way she made every person feel seen and valued.
A celebration of Anne Marie’s life will be held at her home on Saturday, December 20th to honor her memory and the joy she brought into our lives. For those wishing to express their sympathy, the family invites donations to the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA in her memory.
