Alex “Lali” Bustamante, 76, of San Francisco, California, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025. A devoted brother, beloved uncle, and cherished friend, Alex lived a vibrant and passionate life, rooted in curiosity, creativity and connection.
Born on December 8, 1948, Alex carved a remarkable path both professionally and personally. He served as Vice President at Crocker Bank, and later held a long and distinguished career with AT&T, where he was admired for his sharp mind and dedication.
Beyond his professional life, Alex was a man of many talents and passions. He starred in several college plays, showing an early love for performance and storytelling. A voracious reader of science fiction and an avid collector of comic books and vinyl records, Alex cultivated a deep appreciation for the arts and pop culture. His home was filled with music, laughter, and the aroma of his incredible cooking – a passion he shared generously with loved ones.
A fierce competitor, Alex won numerous championships in Chess and Go, games that reflected his strategic thinking and quiet intensity. He was also a lifelong San Francisco 49ers fan, cheering his team on through every high and low.
Alex is survived by his loving siblings: Alicia Schulte, Guillermina Moncada, Jose Luis Gutierrez (Guille), Mario Gutierrez, Sarah Aldrette, and Nancy Aldrette (Tom). He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, all of whom were deeply touched by his kindness, wit and unwavering support.
Alex‘s life was one of richness in thought, in spirit and in the relationships he nurtured. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
