Susan passed away peacefully on Oct. 23rd at the family home in Anacortes with her family by her side. She will be deeply missed by all who had the joy of knowing her. Susan was a happy Christmas Eve baby and proud to be "number 3" of a soon to be family of 11 children.
Born and raised in Detroit, Susan spent her summers at a lovely small Michigan lake, swimming, turtle hunting and volleyball playing with friends and family. Susan was a talented writer, avid reader, and devoted card and letter correspondent who managed to remember almost everyone’s birthday.
Her future husband Bob, serendipitously met her on a blind date on New Year's Eve 1968. They’ve been together ever since. She’s been a devoted mother and tenacious advocate for her children, a compassionate close friend, and kind and empathetic listener. Susan has been generous with her time and committed to her work. She brought her genuine infectious laugh to gatherings with friends and family. Susan loved all animals but was especially passionate for her 5 corgis. Oliver will sorely miss her.
Susan and Bob discovered their love of birding early on and traveled throughout the country seeking diverse & unique habitats. Before chronic physical dysfunctions overtook her, she was an avid outdoorsman boating in the San Juans Islands, hiking the North Cascades, cross-country skiing in the Canadian Rockies, ice skating on frozen lakes, rock climbing local peaks, bicycling the Ice Fields Highway, & canoeing wilderness lakes and saltwater shores with her life partner, Bob.
Susan and Bob cherished their family time with Mike & Barb on Eliza Island, telling silly bedtime jokes and roasting s'mores at the fire. She led family adventure vacations to the desert southwest and tropical shores of Florida and Hawaii. The family especially enjoyed their regular autumn horse riding trips to Winthrop.
Susan received her hard earned bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan. She was Postmaster in Deming WA for many years in the 80’s-90’s and a devoted case worker for Catholic Community Services in Bellingham WA.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents Marie and Roy Lamb; siblings: Mary Kay Scully and Joey Lamb and infant brother Richard; and brother-in-law Eddie Kutney.
