November 1941 – August 2024
Paul went home to be with the Lord and passed away peacefully in his sleep. He was born in Bellingham, Washington, in November 1941, and lived a full and happy life until age 82. He graduated from Bellingham High School in 1959 and remained lifelong friends with several of his classmates until his passing. He proudly served his country, joining the United States Air Force at age 17, following his father (World War II) and older brothers in military service. He was stationed overseas in Spain for several years at Moron Air Force Base, as well as later at Fairchild Air Force Base near Spokane, Washington. He was honorably discharged at the USAF rank of Senior Airman/Sergeant.
He then returned to Washington State, where he met and married Laurel Miller in 1973. They were happily married for 51 years. His career was in the telecommunications field, working in various capacities for “Ma Bell,” specifically Pacific Northwest Bell, for more than 35 years. He sacrificed for his family by commuting to the University District in Seattle for more than 17 years during his children’s formative years, wanting them to grow up and attend school in his hometown of Bellingham. He was an active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Bellingham for more than 50 years.
Paul was the youngest of four, growing up on Bellingham’s southside in the Fairhaven neighborhood. Preceding him in death were his parents John and Barbara, oldest brother Jon, and brother-in-law Ben O’Connor. He is survived by his wife Laurel, son Mark, daughter Tara, sister Delores “DD”, brother Garey (Gail), and numerous relatives and friends.
He was a voracious reader throughout his life and enjoyed a good air show. We'll also miss his wonderful sense of humor. The legacy he leaves behind is one of being a cherished family man, husband, brother, uncle, and friend to everyone he met. Most of all he was a great dad. He will be missed dearly, and we look forward to seeing him again one day on the other side. So long Dad; we’ll take it from here.
