Greetings from Joy Oldemeyer. I’m writing this November 2002. I began my earthly journey in San Antonio, TX in 1936, joining my parents, Frederick Abraham Hardman and Mary Calistia Johnson Hardman and a brother Roy. I also later welcomed brother Daryl.
I loved playing dolls and skating before I started school. Once I started school, it pretty much held my attention. Favorites included reading, spelling, and recess! Music appreciation became a favorite in junior high, along with softball, number sense and algebra, and a brush and extemporaneous speaking (I won 1st place when there were no other entries!). I graduated from Brackenridge High School, elected to History Honor and National Honor, enjoying studies, sports, and A Capella Choir.
After attending Mary Hardin-Baylor College for Women for one semester, I married the love of my life, Homer Oldemeyer, in 1954. We lived in Tacoma, WA, Corpus Cristi, TX, the Philippine Islands, China Lake, California and Quonset Pt., RI before Homer’s last duty station at Naval Air Station Whidbey island. Along the way three wonderful offspring joined our family: Bruce, Dinah, and Cecelia. They brought us such pride and joy. We have also been blessed with 6 grandchildren: Justin, Brianna, Bonnie, Rachelle, Eugene, Sean David, and 3 great-grandchildren: Owen, Milo and Irelyn.
In 2000, after earning college credits along the way, I received an Associate in Arts degree with Honors from Skagit Valley College.
I’m grateful for God’s blessings, especially for the healing message of Christian Science, which reveals that I am the beloved child of God always and that this goes for every individual. I’m deeply grateful, too, for the unutterable kindness shown me by family and friends.
All the Best! See you.
