

Janis went to nursing school in Iowa, became a Registered Nurse and set off to Glendive, Montana to begin her career, where she also met her husband, Ronald Pierce. Eventually they ended up moving to Bellingham, WA where Janis worked as a nurse in the Emergency Room and Surgery at St. Luke’s Hospital, ultimately becoming the Director of Nursing.
Janis is survived by Ronald Pierce (husband of 66 years), Della (Pierce) Friend and Greg Friend (daughter and son-in-law), Susan Pierce (daughter) and Marie Steensen (sister), as well as nieces and nephews.
Janis was preceded in death by Lloyd and Lanie Pickett (parents), Irma Jean Caspers and Dorothy Zobel (sisters), Alice State (half sister) and Robert Greene (half brother).
Janis was devoted to her family, many friends and nursing career.
The family would like to thank Whatcom Hospice for the care, compassion and assistance provided for both her time at Hospice House as well as the time spent at home under hospice care / supervision.
