Micky was born in Chicago, Illinois to Gustav and Elsie Muhme. She is survived by her sister, Isana Mendelson.
In 1954, she married her first love Claude “Ace” Allen and together they had three children: Claudina (Ron) Shaw, Sandra Allen, and David (Cindy) Allen. Micky was a grandma to Jonathan Shaw, Emma Shaw and David (Jacob) Shaw, great grandma to Killian Shaw, Agda and Ingrid Vanevenhoven, and “Auntie I” to John (Lori) Wood, Ryan and Tom Wood, Rosalyn (Paul) Richard and Roger Wood. After the passing of Ace in 1981, she met and married her second love Dale Singleterry in 1993. She gained two wonderful stepdaughters, Roxanne Romero and Jeannie Singleterry, and many more grandchildren, nieces and nephews, for her to love. Dale passed away in 2005.
Micky was a strong independent woman with a heart of gold. She was a tough cookie (something the last ER doctor recognized right away) and a go-getter; never one to sit still for very long. She battled cancer twice and was victorious. She and Ace owned and operated three Sizzler Steakhouses during the 27 years they were married. Her last 42 years of employment were enjoyed working side by side with a dear friend Dorothea Dinmore. Lasting memories were made while cutting veggies, grilling sandwiches, flipping eggs at Julius’ Deli and then Mozart’s, a fabulous European gift store in downtown Redlands that many came to know and love as the perfect shop to get that perfect and unique gift. Micky always “knew” what had to be done and did it. She was determined to work until she was 90, and then Covid 19 hit and she had to retire. But she left her mark by the many little things she took care of that you only discovered when she was gone…
Micky was a smart and fashionable dresser. Everything coordinated and there was always that special piece of jewelry that was an accent. Many pieces she shared over the years with family and friends. Everyone knew she loved her “holiday” socks and she had a pair or two for each of them. (At least 31 for Christmas!) She had her hair done every week and a mani/pedi, always with the perfect color – “Not So Boring Pink”, was a routine necessity.
Micky cherished her family and friends. Every gift was handpicked and lavishly wrapped. She never forgot those from her early years: from her kids’ babysitters to the angels she met on her journey throughout the years. They included coworkers, customers, hairdressers, massage therapists, new neighbors, grocery clerks, postal workers, her gardener, travel agents, bank tellers and her Mozart angels. She never forgot a holiday, birthday, thank-you note or a “chat” card. You never knew when you would get a “visit” from Micky.
Micky loved bears, dogs, birds, a flowering garden and playing Bingo. To stay alert, she played board games, progressive rummy, scrabble and did crossword puzzles and word searches. She loved the challenges of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.
Micky lived life to its fullest. She loved and was loved. She will be missed every day. Goodbye Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Sis, Aunt and my friend. We will see you again. Rest in peace.
Per her wishes, Micky’s ashes will be scattered at sea. If you would like to remember her, a donation to the City of Hope or your local humane society would make her smile.
