Hope was born and raised in Bellingham, WA. She graduated from Bellingham High School in 1965 and married the love of her life, Steve Hanson in June 1967. Together they raised two children, Troy and Kathy. Through Steve’s service in the U.S. Air Force, their family was blessed to have had the opportunity to travel the world, an experience Hope cherished, before settling back in Bellingham.
Hope brought joy and laughter wherever she went. Her feisty wit and infectious humor made her unforgettable to all who knew her. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures: nurturing her garden beneath the sun, sewing with creativity and care, and bowling, a beloved pastime that began in childhood and remained a lifelong passion.
Her dedication to community was evident through her long-standing involvement with the American Legion Auxiliary. Since joining The Albert J Hamilton Auxiliary Unit #7 in 1987, Hope devoted herself to supporting veterans and their families, a cause close to her heart.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband Steve Hanson; daughter Kathy Hanes (Bob); son Troy Hanson (Ann); grandchildren Kayla Brown (TJ), Trever Hanes, Kathy Wells (Jeff), Tyler Maley (Michael), Travis Hanes, and Brandon Hanson; and great-grandchildren Kenlie, Tayden, Carson, Talan, Wyatt, and Jennifer.
Hope was preceded in death by her parents Willard and Thelma Dix; brother James Dix; and sister Madeline Dix.
A celebration of Hope’s life will be held on January 18, 2026, at American Legion Post #7, 1688 W Bakerview Rd., Bellingham, WA from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Join us in honoring Hope's memory by wearing something purple, her favorite color, and let's come together to celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Hope’s name may be made to the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #7 or Whatcom Hospice House.
Hope lived true to her name, offering strength and love to those around her. Her legacy continues through the lives she touched with warmth and grace.
