A long time resident of Camano Island, Don relocated to La Conner to be closer to family in 2019.
With help from Hospice, Don was able to remain at home during his final days. Deep gratitude from Don and family to Hospice of the NW for being so amazing with such short notice.
Don cherished his family, including his sister, Kathy James of Conway, his niece Nicole Purdue (Jason) their children, Hayden and Zoey of Conway and nephew Josh James (Christina) of Oak Harbor and children Jordan, Nathan, Julian, Victoria and Thomas, Isaac and Brenden.
Don valued the many friendships he made over the years, he truly connected with people. His riches in life were not measured by things, rather the people and relationships in his life that he enjoyed the most. A few extra special long term friendships were enjoyed with Scott, Rana, Peter, Kathy G., Dave, Nancy and Jill. Each one of you were a true gift to Don. He was grateful to have you in his life.
Don was known as a sweet, gentle person, and a person who would lend you his ear at a moment's notice. For many years he was a constant presence at jam sessions, festivals, campouts, road trips, gigs ... anything musical. He was a tireless rhythm guitarist so could be called upon to accompany anything from fiddle tunes to jazz. Don may be most well-remembered by his music family as sitting around a campfire late into the night and jamming with his friends and telling jokes.
The world will never be the same without Don in it, but for all who knew and loved him, we will keep our favorite memories embedded in our hearts forever. Rest our dear brother, uncle, friend. And thank you for sharing your life with all of us.
An intimate family gathering to Celebrate Don’s life will take place this summer in Granite Falls.
It seems only fitting that a dual casting ceremony will take place for both Don and his trusted, beloved, four- legged longtime “partner in crime” and faithful companion of many years, “Worf,” together, will be put to rest for eternity.
The family plans to add a few special photos in the comment area to share, we encourage friends and loved ones to add any photos or special memories you might like to share as well.
