On Friday, May 5, 2023, Steven Hedlund Vowles of Lakeway Texas, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 73 after complications following gallbladder surgery. Born in San Rafael, California on July 1, 1949 and raised in San Carlos, California, Steve attended Brittan Acres Elementary School, Tierra Linda Junior High, San Carlos High School (Class of l967) and the College of San Mateo. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Richard Seare Vowles, his mother, Lucielle Hedlund Vowles, and his grandson Aleksander Richard Vowles.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Kathleen Vowles (his home town sweetheart), his son, Derek Vowles, and daughter-in-law Aga Vowles (Aptos, CA); his daughter, Melanie Vowles Jerdon, and son-in-law Kurt Jerdon (Lakeway, TX); grandsons Tyler Jerdon and Dominik Vowles; granddaughters Natalia Vowles and Cassidy Jerdon; his sister Karen Vowles (Lakeway, TX); his brother Gary Vowles and sister-in-law Claire (Gardnerville, NV); his nieces Sharon Hole (Prescott, AZ), Sarah Norman (Vale, NC), Brianna Vowles (Sacramento, CA); cousins Donna Cobb and Linda Loving (Camp Verde, AZ). Also surviving are step-granddaughters Kallan Jerdon Martin, Macy Jerdon Gonzalez (and their husbands and children) and Tatumn Jerdon.
Steve was a retired Graphic Designer and Artist with unparalleled talent. His work was ingenious and his meticulous craftsmanship could be seen in every piece he created. From woodworking, stained glass, to Steampunk-inspired “StevePunk” lamps and industrial folk art fish, he enjoyed designing, creating and sharing his work with loved ones.
Steve also had a passion for comic books, vintage toys, a quality steak, 49ers football, Giants baseball, hockey, sports cars, German beer and a good Manhattan. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Kathy and family, especially to Hawaii. He was a gifted man of quick wit, humor, wisdom, kindness and integrity. Steve was beloved by everyone who met him and will remain in our hearts forever.
In remembrance of Steve, the family will be holding a private celebration of his life.
