Shirley Mae Douglas

Never one to be idle, Shirley worked as a cashier and general office worker at Crystal Ice Company before attending Oklahoma State University. She graduated with a B.S. degree in Business. It was there she met Jack and they were married just days after graduation.

Shirley was a loving wife, mother and friend. Upon marrying Jack, she became an instant mother to Janette age 5 and Jack Jr. age 3. She and Jack later had 2 daughters Debra and Caroline. She adapted well to her lifestyle as a military wife and mom, following Jack through many moves and even enduring months apart while he was flying missions for the United States Air Force. It was during these times Shirley developed a passion to volunteer in many oganizations throught her life. These are just a few that captured her heart, Kappa Delta sorority, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, United Methodist Women, Girl Scouts, Music from Angel Fire, Garden Club, Choir, Military Wives Clubs and Senorita Debutantes in Albuquerque, NM.

Her highest honor was being named Military Wife of the Year, Tactical Air Command in 1974.

She was a substitute teacher two times in her life for several years. She taught in Northern Virginia Public Schools and again in the Albuquerque Public School system.

She had many hobbies throughout her life including golf, bowling, singing in choir, bridge, snow skiing and traveling the world with Jack via either cruise ships or a fifth wheel trailer.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Jack Douglas, son Jackie Rhea Jr. and daughter Debra Ann.

She is survived by daughters Janette Douglas and Caroline May, and grand children Jill and Jenny Patterson and Trent and Rachel May.

A memorial service will be held on October 5th, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wesleyan Independent Living, 210 White Heron Drive.
