Sally Anne Mitchell passed away from heart failure on February 16, 2022 in Round Rock, Texas at the age of 81. Sally was born on March 1, 1940 in Houston, Texas to Frank and Margaret Cooper. She was preceded in death by two older brothers, James and Leroy Cooper. Sally was raised in Houston, and attended Baylor University from 1958 to 1962. Following university Sally worked for the State of Texas as a Social Worker in Dallas.
In 1968 Sally moved to Austin, Texas and went to work for the Austin City Clerk’s Office. While with the city Sally served as secretary to Mayor Carol Rylander and ended her career as Boards and Commissions Coordinator for the Austin City Council.
Sally met the love of her life in Austin in 1983. It was “love at first sight” for both of them and she and Joseph Mitchell were married on February 11, 1984.
Sally became a Christian as a young girl and her faith sustained her throughout her life. In 1969 she joined Allandale Baptist Church and was an active member until her health deteriorated. She was a Prayer Warrior, taught girls in Sunday School, an adult women’s Bible Study, and painted numerous murals in church classrooms. Her most rewarding work was the organization of a Banner Ministry in the church. She and several other women created more than twenty large banners extolling the various Names of God. These were carried by young men from the congregation and used in many special services and events such as the annual Women’s Conference hosted by the pastor’s wife.
A Memorial Service is planned but has not yet been scheduled. Memorial contributions in Sally’s name can be made to Baylor University, Gideon’s International or Samaritan’s Purse Ministry.
