To many, she was a sister, aunt, grandmother, and dear friend. To me, she was simply Mom—a woman of unwavering faith whose love for Christ guided every aspect of her life. She lived her faith through kindness, humility, and a genuine love for others.
For 34 years, Mom faithfully served the citizens of Kerr County through her work in the Kerr County Clerk's Office in Kerrville, Texas. She took great pride in serving her community with dedication, integrity, and compassion.
Her faith was at the center of her life. She was an active member of her church and joyfully shared her musical talents by playing the piano and singing, skills she learned as a young girl. She especially loved singing hymns, and whenever the lyrics included the word "Hallelujah," everyone in the room knew it. She would lift her voice just a little louder on that one word, singing it with unmistakable joy and conviction. Now, whenever I hear "Hallelujah" in a hymn or a Christian song, I can't help but smile, because I hear her voice all over again. Whether through music, worship, or quiet acts of service, she reflected Christ's love in the way she lived every day.
Family was one of Mom's greatest treasures. She believed families should stay connected, and because of her, summer family reunions became a cherished tradition that created memories I will carry with me forever. She lived a life that illustrated kindness, respect, and compassion for everyone she met. Through her own example, she taught me how to treat others with grace and dignity, lessons that have guided me throughout my life.
Mom also had a wonderful sense of humor and never took herself too seriously. She would have been the first to admit she wasn't the world's greatest cook. I'll never forget one evening when she proudly served baked chicken to Chris and me before we were married. We each took our first bite and chewed...and chewed...and chewed. Mom took one bite of her own chicken, quietly set down her fork, looked at us with a smile, and said, "Y'all wanna get a pizza?" We all laughed, answered, "Sure," and headed out for pizza instead. That's who she was. She could find humor in her own imperfections, laugh at herself without embarrassment, and remind us that being together was always more important than what was on the dinner table.
There are countless things I will miss: her smile, her gentle spirit, her encouragement, and the quiet strength she showed throughout her life. Although my heart is heavy with her passing, I find comfort in knowing she is now at peace in the presence of her Savior, whom she faithfully loved and served.
Her legacy of faith, love, compassion, and devotion to family will continue to live on in all of us who were blessed to know her. I will always be grateful that God chose her to be my mother, and I will carry her love, her laughter, and the sound of her joyful "Hallelujah" with me for the rest of my life.
