Roger Williams Baur Sr. was born on April 18, 1941 in Cairo, IL. The third of six sons to Paul Schuh and Ruth (Williams) Baur, Roger spent his childhood in Cairo, enjoying many adventures with his brothers.
After graduating from Cairo High School, Roger attended Texas A&M University in College Station, TX., for a year, before entering the US Army in 1961. He was very proud of his service as an Operating Room Specialist in Vietnam.
On April 8, 1963 Roger married the love of his life, Bessie Ruth Lane. Continuing in the Baur tradition, the couple had three sons of their own, Roger Jr., Robert, and Russell.
After completing his military service in 1967, Roger returned to Texas A&M University graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration in May of 1970.
After a brief time in North Texas and Mississippi as a salesman with Redmond Industries, the family settled in Houston, Tx. Roger worked for several years at PetroPak, before starting his own crating and exporting business, Baur Services. One of his most memorable shipments was a stuffed elephant! After selling the business, Roger continued working with his son, Robert, building rock climbing walls. Their most memorable build was in Baylor University’s Student Life Center.
After Bessie passed in 2018, Roger moved to Bryan, TX and then to Kyle, TX in 2024.
Roger loved being the center of attention with his jokes and stories. He kept the caregivers at his assisted living home smiling with his teases.
