Robert Kirkham peacefully and gracefully exited this world in the early afternoon hours of January 2nd, 2024. Surrounded by his family and enveloped in love, Bob closed the final chapter on a life beautifully lived.
He was born on December 1st, 1930, in Houston, Texas to his parents James and Viola Kirkham. Bob spent his childhood in Houston where he was active in sports, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on cars. He attended Rice University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture in 1954. Bob was an accomplished architect, specializing in the construction of schools and other commercial properties both nationally and internationally. His work took him to many interesting places such as the West Indies and Middle East. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Ceale, whom he loved dearly. Together, they made memories to last a lifetime and he loved telling stories about their travels.
In retirement, he and Ceale relocated to Wimberley, Texas where he was an active volunteer in the community. He supervised the re-modeling of the Wimberley Playhouse, designed the Paradise Hills neighborhood sign, river park gate, and respite bench area. These projects, and many others, will serve as a constant reminder of his love for Paradise Hills and the city of Wimberley. He was also a longtime vintage car enthusiast and active member of the American Car Club of America, Cadillac LaSalle Club and local car club, Road Relics. He and Ceale traveled extensively throughout Texas and beyond in their 1955 Cadillac Coupe Deville affectionately named Scarlet. They made many new friends and even more memories along the highways, byways, and small towns of Texas.
Bob was gifted with a keen sense of humor and loved making people laugh. He was a master joke teller, life of the party, and will always be remembered for bringing family, friends, and neighbors closer together. Bob, your colorful personality still echoes in our hearts, and your spirit will live on in the stories we tell. Your legacy of love and zest for life will never be forgotten.
As a devout Astros and Houston Texans fan, Bob leaves behind a beautiful family of sports loving sons including Kyle Kirkham, Tom Kirkham and his wife Maribel, and Charles Kirkham. Three granddaughters that he loved dearly, Nicole Garcia and her husband Ricardo, Megan Kirkham, and Sarah Kirkham. Great grandson Mateo Garcia. His brother, Dr. James Kirkham, and his loving wife Lucille Kirkham. He was equally fond of Lucille’s children, Christina Feldt and John Feldt.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life event at the Wimberley Community Center, 14068 Ranch Road 12, Wimberley, TX 78676 on Saturday, January 27th at 2PM. This will be a casual gathering. Any stories you may want to share about Bob are welcomed and encouraged.
