Robert Ewing Clemons Jr.

With heavy hearts, the family of Robert “Ewing” Clemons Jr., announces the peaceful passing of their beloved father, husband, brother, son and uncle on August 29, 2026 in Austin, one year following a diagnosis of ALS. His wife, Sherri, and all four of his children were by his side.

Though tragically cut short, his 68 years with us were rich and full. Born March 30, 1958, in Houston, Texas, Ewing was the eldest of three boys and remained exceptionally close with his brothers throughout his life.

He was a devoted University of Texas alumnus, a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity, and a member of the honorary student service organization, the Texas Cowboys. In 1980, Ewing earned a degree in Petroleum Land Management. He met his beautiful wife, Sherri, on a blind date to a UT football game, and the two were married on January 25, 1986, in Houston. This year, they celebrated 40 years of marriage and raising four adored children: Lauren, Ryan, and twins Kelly and Lizzy.

Ewing’s career began in 1981 at Getty Oil, which was later acquired by Texaco. By the time he retired in 2016, Texaco had become Chevron. Rising from a Petroleum Landman to a Commercial Contracts Negotiator, Ewing remained a steadfast presence throughout the company’s transitions. In 2004, a career highlight took him to Perth, Australia, launching a ten-year chapter that held some of their most cherished family memories. From there, Sherri and Ewing spent three years as empty nesters in Calgary, Canada, before returning home to Texas.

Surfing dominated Ewing's early years, but it paved the way for another great, lifelong passion: golf. To say he loved golf is to put it mildly. He played courses not just at home, but around the world alongside close friends and family.

Ewing possessed an enviable ability to collect friends wherever he went. He never met a stranger and remained first and foremost a dedicated family man. His enthusiasm, curiosity, and genuine humility made him a great listener. He was an avid reader and intelligent without ever flaunting it, always making others feel that what they had to say was truly important. Music was another constant joy in his life. You could often catch him bopping his head and tapping his feet to his favorite songs.

Simply put, there was never enough of Ewing to go around, and any time he left this world would have been far too soon.

Ewing is survived by his wife, Sherri Carlisle Clemons; his children, Lauren Stanbery (husband Sam) and their children, Josie and Charlie; Ryan Clemons (wife Amanda) and their children, Benjamin and Paige; Kelly Clemons (husband Jimmy); and Lizzy Riley (husband Colton).

Ewing was predeceased by his father, Robert “Buddy” Ewing Clemons. He is survived by his mother, Grayson Cecil; his brother Lamar Clemons (wife Anne); his brother Reed Clemons (wife Betsy); and numerous nieces and nephews whom he adored like his own children.
