Richard was born October 21st, 1944 in Lampasas, Texas to Howard and Addie Mae Williams. He played football at Lampasas High School, and in 1964 joined the Navy to serve aboard the USS Constellation as an aircraft electrician. His service completed, he went on to work as a volunteer firefighter, a construction worker, and a phone company lineman, learning skills that served him throughout his life as a builder and maintainer of things: homes, vehicles, and relationships with those who knew and loved him.
He was a deer hunter and tennis player before moving on to golf and chess, and was a life-long and voracious reader—a habit that culminated in the ability to complete crossword puzzles in record time. He was as charming and witty as he was fiercely competitive, as anyone who played card or board games with him will attest.
Richard passed away at his home on Saturday, June 1st, 2019 at the age of 74. He is survived by his wife Georgia Ann, their son Klay Williams and his wife Gayle, their daughter Jennifer Williams Averitt and her husband Brian, and also by their granddaughter Amelia Williams. He is also survived by his mother Addie Mae Ralph and his stepfather Don Ralph.
He will be loved and missed, always.
