He was born to born to Richard Henderson Sr. of Ontario, Canada and Florence Elizabeth Herbert Henderson of London, England, in Mt. Kisco, New York on October 25, 1929. He grew up in the Bronx, New York with his parents and two older sisters Florence Kaye and Mary.
Richard married the love of his life Virginia Anne Parsons, in Monterey California. Together they loved to travel enjoying many cruises to various places such as Alaska, Belize, Mexico and the Caribbean. They were San Francisco Giants fans and held seasons tickets to Candlestick Park for many years. They were members of Saint Francis Episcopal Church in San Jose, California and Saint Marks Episcopal Church in Austin, Texas.
Richard spent a large part of his career as a truck driver, transporting goods from Los Angeles to Washington State. In later years he drove for Macy's California. After moving to Texas to be with family, and a brief retirement, he began working for the Hills Health Center where he was treasured by both staff and members, especially the “over the hill gang” who played racquetball together.
Richard enjoyed fishing, golf, growing veggies in his garden, spending time with family and friends and watching UT football. He appreciated a good glass of scotch with a fine Cuban cigar. He was an avid story teller and would often amuse friends and family with stories of growing up in the Bronx during the depression as well as his daily adventures.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Florence, sisters, Kaye and Mary, his wife, Virginia, and precious cocker spaniel, Archie. He is survived by his daughter Mimi (Johnny) Klemm of McDade, Texas and Grandson, Tim Alexander of Austin, Texas, all of whom love him dearly.
A Memorial service is planned for Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 11:00 am at Journey Church,
1221 N Ave C, Elgin, Texas.
Memorial Contributions may be made in his honor to St. Jude's cancer research hospital for children or the Bastrop county animal shelter.
