

Oscar Gonzalez, age 95, passed away on July 1, 2024, at his home in Round Rock, Texas. Born on July 13, 1928, in Pereira, Colombia, South America, Oscar dedicated his life to his family, the practice of medicine, and the well-being and encouragement of others.
Oscar attended Universitario de Caldas for his high school education and later graduated from Universidad Nacional de Colombia with the degree of Medical Doctor. His diverse medical career spanned 54 years during which he served in Colombia and the United States. He was one of the pioneering Board Certified Family Physicians, and his career varied from working as a doctor for a gold mine company in Colombia to running an AIDS clinic in Austin, Texas. He was in private practice in San Antonio and Kenedy, Texas, and cared for military dependents and retirees in Kileen. He concluded his career at the City of Austin’s Northeast Austin Clinic. There he was honored as Provider of the Year for the Travis County Community Health System. His 50 years in medicine were honored by the Texas Medical Association, and he was awarded Lifetime Membership in the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Oscar was a loving husband and father, remembered for his commitment to family and his unyielding zest for life. He found joy in fixing things, whether it was people through his medical practice or things around the house. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he was a member of St. Williams Catholic Church.
In his leisure, Oscar enjoyed watching soccer, tinkering with his old red Chevy truck, singing and dancing to Colombian music, and reading. His love of life, his sense of humor, and his resilience in facing challenges were just some of the qualities that endeared him to many.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Rebecca Buck Gonzalez; his children, Oscar Fernando Gonzalez, Maria Cristina Canales (Roberto), Fabio Gonzalez (Emma), Margo Elaine Rowland (Don), Laura Stephanie Alfaro (Marco) and Monica Gonzalez Frazier (Stephen); his sister, Amparo Jaramillo and brother, Gilberto Javier Gonzalez. He was also blessed with grandchildren Marina, Paloma, Jazzmine, Alan, Ian, Dylan, A.J., Julianna, and Maren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jose J. Gonzalez and Genoveva Gonzalez Escobar; and sisters Maria Dora Schwarz, Ligia Gonzalez, Fanny Chart, and Ruby Gonzalez.
A celebration of Oscar’s life will be held on Friday, July 12th, 2024 at 10 a.m., at The Sacred Heart Chapel at St. Williams Catholic Church, - 620 Round Rock West Drive, Round Rock TX 78681.
