Noel moved on to meet our Lord in Heaven early in the morning on Saturday May 11th, following an extended battle with cancer and other complications. His community of friends and family stayed in touch with him through these trials. Since entering Hospice in December, he was patient, alert, and able to chat throughout.
Noel was born February 18, 1958 in St. Paul, NE and was the second son of Byron and Wanda Phillips. ‘By’ was running the local newspaper, the Phonograph, and Noel’s birth was celebrated in By’s column ‘By’ Lines on that day.
Noel was a Letterman at Omaha Westside High School in Football in 1975 and 1976, and played at Peru St College for one season, prior to entering the Navy. Following his brief Military service, Noel returned to Omaha, where he met his wife to be Cindy (Alden) Phillips, while working in the transportation business with Speedway in Omaha.
Cindy and Noel were married in Omaha, NE on September 24, 1983 and were together for over 35 years. They relocated to Cedar Park, TX in the early 90’s, where Noel continued to work in transportation, launching his courier business, NBP Statewide Delivery. With the launch of his business, Noel realized his lifelong dream of driving delivery vehicles and bringing goods to companies and private parties throughout Texas and the Southwest. Noel was noted for his reliability as a courier, his integrity in business, and his strength of character. NBP flourished through the 90’s and into the new millennium, until the economic downturn created a difficult economy for many of Noel’s clients. Despite the downturn, Noel held true to his commitments and ran NBP until his health-related retirement in 2012. During his working years, Noel was an advocate of safe driving, and highway courtesy, as well as being the willing helper of motorists; assisting people in trouble throughout his routes.
In addition to Football, Noel was an accomplished golfer for much of his life. Playing with a strong drive and a solid short-game, Noel enjoyed playing scratch golf on the courses of central Texas until his stroke in 2012 took away his mobility. He continued to be an avid follower of sports throughout his life.
Noel is survived by his wife Cindy (Alden) Phillips; by a Brother, Nathan; two sisters, Rebecca Andersen and Barbara Wykes, and by his dog Sunny Meadows, one of many furry family members over the years. Noel’s Nephew Matthew, and his Nieces Allison and Alexandra all loved him and loved chatting and listening to his stories. He was a gentle soul in a giant frame and celebrated over 35 years of sobriety.
Services will be at St Richard’s Episcopal in Round Rock, TX, on Saturday May 25th, at 10am. En Lieu of flowers or gifts, please visit our Go-Fund-Me site to make gifts that will go to Cindy and to Noel’s non-profit of choice, St Jude’s Children’s ( https://www.gofundme.com/noel-b-phillips-memorial ).
We were all fortunate to know you! Thanks, and we will miss you Noely…
