My heartfelt sympathies to Max's family and colleagues. I have the fondest memories of Max: when I was an assistant professor at UT-Austin, starting out in my first academic job, he was unfailingly kind and helpful. He answered my naive questions and supported my ventures into what were, at the time, unconventional research areas. He was a true mentor, a cordial colleague, and a role model, especially now that I'm a senior faculty member in a position to pay his kindness forward. He will be missed by all of us who knew him.

Words cannot adequately convey the depth of my grief. Dr. McCombs was not just my advisor; he was a mentor, a role model, and a source of constant support throughout my academic journey. To Mrs. McCombs and all family members, I send my deepest condolences. His legacy will continue to inspire generations and he will be missed by all whose lives he touched.

I had a nice conversation with Dr. McCombs a few days ago and told him how meaningful he had been to so many of the people who had the good fortune to know him and have him as their professor. I told him I loved him and that many others do, too. He was a very special person who will be missed and remembered forever by all of us who loved him. Professors in many parts of the world are teaching his Agenda Setting Theory of the Mass Media, and students everywhere will credit Dr. McCombs for it. How lucky we were to have known this great gentleman personally, a kind soul, beloved husband, father, friend, and influential scholar. We can't fully express our sincere condolences to Betsy and to Dr. McCombs' sons, daughters, and extended family.  God bless you all and strengthen you in the days ahead.
