Mary Deaton Warren of Austin, Texas passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025 at the age of 94. She was born on January 28, 1931 in Houston, Texas, and grew up primarily in San Benito, Texas and Galena Park, Texas. She lived her adult life primarily in the Houston area, Orange County, CA and Austin.
Mary graduated at the top of her class from Galena Park High School and received her Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas in Austin. She married her high school sweetheart Bobby Joe (Bob) Warren in 1951 and worked as a housewife and homemaker for 66 years until Bob’s death in 2017.
Besides being a homemaker and raising 3 almost perfectly imperfect children, she was actively involved in many activities over the years, such as bridge clubs, garden club, bowling league, birdwatching, golfing, and Rotary Club, and won several trophies and blue ribbons. She was a finalist in the Mrs. Houston contest in the 1960s! Although she hated to fly, she enjoyed discovering new places, especially with her children and grandchildren, and the entire family traveled to such places as Switzerland, Italy, England, Manzanillo, Costa Rica, Cancun, the Virgin Islands and Jamaica, where they skied, ziplined, sailed, snorkeled, rode motor scooters, etc., etc. She and Bob owned motorhomes for about 25 years and traveled all over the US, as well as in Canada and Mexico.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Bobby Joe Warren, parents Dr. David Grady and Irene Wood Deaton, brother John Wood Deaton and sister Dr. Ann Deaton Nichols.
She is survived by her aforementioned almost perfect children Janet Warren Price Cordova, Marilyn Warren Fehrenkamp and John David Warren, and grandchildren David Grady Price, Kelly Lynn Fehrenkamp Keyser, John Lee Fehrenkamp, Scott David Warren and Sean David Warren, five great grandchildren, and innumerable nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and even great-grand nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Longhorn Village, and particularly those at Casa Mesquite, as well as Heart to Heart Hospice and Ms. Joanna Mesecke, for the incredible care and compassion they showed Mary in her final years. A note found among her belongings said how much she loved Longhorn Village and all the people that lived there, and that she wanted them all to know.
Family and friends of Mary’s are invited to attend an informal gathering in Houston to eat, drink, share memories, reminisce, laugh (and maybe cry, but not too much) at a location to be announced, on:
March 21, 2025 from 2:30 to 5:00 pm.
Please contact her daughter Marilyn via email at [email protected] to let her know if you’d like to join us in Houston for the celebration of Mary’s life.
