Mary Ann Marion

Born on February 13, 1941 in Kaua’i, Hawaii, they moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, her mother’s hometown, after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Mary Ann lived a life defined by family devotion, beautiful artwork, and a lifetime of educational service.

Growing up in a lively household alongside her brothers—Bill, John, Fred, Jim, and Joe—Mary Ann developed strength, poise, and character early in life. Among her most memorable experiences was attending Little Rock Central High School as a junior during the historic height of integration, a pivotal chapter in American history.

Her love for learning blossomed into a distinguished career as an elementary school educator spanning well over 30 years. As a dedicated science and biology teacher, Mary Ann inspired thousands of young minds, sharing her curiosity about the natural world and instilling a love for discovery in generations of students.

Above all else, Mary Ann’s primary devotion was to her family. She was married for over 60 years to Eddie Marion, the absolute love of her life who preceded her in death last year. Together, they built a life anchored in faith and love, sharing countless joyful moments and a deep love for attending Gaither Gospel concerts.

Following her career in education, Mary Ann dedicated many years to helping raise her precious grandchildren in Texas. A woman of gentle creativity, she found great joy in crafts and needlepoint sewing, weaving care and love into every piece she made.

Mary Ann is survived by her children, Bill Marion and Kristen (Marion) Newcomb; her four cherished grandchildren, Brian Marion, Nicolle Newcomb, Catie Newcomb, and Megan Newcomb; her surviving brothers, Bill, Fred, Jim, and Joe Rath; as well as extended family, former students, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Eddie Marion, and her twin brother, John Rath.

Her family finds enduring comfort in knowing that Mary Ann is now sitting peacefully beside Eddie in Heaven—sewing, smiling, and lovingly watching over her grandchildren once again.
