Marlyn Paul Barlow died at his home in Buda, Texas on July 21, 2018 at the age of 91, surrounded by his immediate family. Paul was born June 18, 1927 in Grand Island, Nebraska. From his early childhood until his post retirement he was an advocate for positive development of all people; with a significant focus on children. He was a pioneer in the field of positive psychology and supported the concept of encouraging people to grow through the discovery of individual talents. His behavior exhibited this approach with all people, especially in his career as an educator and his post retirement career as a Registered Play Therapist for children.
He received his doctorate in Educational Psychology from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Recognized for his work in the Nebraska Human Resources Foundation, he was a Professor of Education and Psychology for 40 years at Texas A&M Kingsville (formerly Texas A&I University – Go Hoggies!). In Kingsville, he served as President of the first board for Family Guidance Services, and president of the morning Kiwanis club.
He is survived by his wife, Dr. Marjorie Barlow, and his five children: Anna Kathleen Brown of Kyle, TX, James Michael Robinson of San Marcos, TX, Victoria Kaye Barlow of Kyle, TX, Dr. Edward Robinson of Kyle, TX, and Cynthia Barlow (husband Robert Thompson) of Tucson, AZ. Also Anna’s son, John Newton Brown IV, and his son Ramsay Tubbs; Michael’s wife, Janice (Brooks) and their son Lee, his wife Eran, and their two children, Lawson Paul and Ruby Kate of Amarillo, TX; their daughter, Melissa Aguilar and her husband Ricky and their children Reilly Aguilar and Will Aguilar of Spring Branch, TX.
Other survivors include his brother, Loral Barlow and his wife Nancy, of Lawrenceville, GA; his niece, Linda Pavlisch, and her children Nathan and Natalie of Omaha, NE, and his brother-in-law, Rev. Don McNeely and family (Rob, Pam, Ryan, Kristyn, Coen, Brittany, Brandon, Wes, Drew, Laura, Nathan, Bart, Lisa, Hunter)
