

Maria Encarnación Avalos, 81 of Pflugerville, Texas, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026. She was born on August 21, 1944 in La Palma, El Salvador to Román Alfonso Barrera Rivera and Emilia Campos vda. de Barrera.
She was a loving friend, sister, mother and Mimi. Maria took pride in raising her son Mark, instilling a strong work ethic. She was a woman of faith and supported her friends and family with strength and compassion. She moved from El Salvador to the United States in the early 70’s to pursue education. She worked selflessly as a caregiver for a single family for multiple generations. Her commitment to her work reflected her desires to nurture and provide for others.
In her free time, she enjoyed traveling, shopping, listening to music, tending to her plants and spending time with friends and family.
She is survived by her brother, Román Alfonso Barrera Campos (Ada Mercedes de Barrera); son, Mark Anthony Avalos (Monique Mejia-Avalos); her grandchildren Mabry Elise and Lincoln Thomas Avalos; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. They will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
She is preceded in death by her siblings Efrain Barrera Campos, Napoleón Barrera Campos, and Rosa Hilda Barrera de Sierra.
Maria’s final resting place will be in El Salvador. The family extends an invitation to celebrate Maria’s life at her home. This is a come and go event to provide her beloved friends and extended family with the opportunity to share memories and enjoy some of her favorite foods.
