Manfred Franz Bohm (Mannie) of Kingwood, Texas passed away on April 12, 2023 at the age of 74. Mannie was born on November 7, 1948 in Uetersen, Germany. His family immigrated to the United States in 1954, where they became successful chicken farmers. Mannie was a proud Richmond Spider, graduating from the University of Richmond with a degree in economics. He served in the Army Reserve and had a successful 35-year career in finance at Texaco later to become Equiva, Motiva, Equilon and Shell.
Mannie is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Irmgard Bohm, his brother Berndt Bohm, and his nephew Tyler Bohm.
He will forever be in the hearts of his wife, Mary; his children, Christie (Tyler Chase), Julie (Jesse Klinge), Mike (Kelly Bohm), and Sarah (Tuan Hoang); his grandchildren Audrey and Lyla Klinge, and Carter and Dylan Bohm; and his many in-laws, outlaws, nieces and nephews of the extended Bohm and LaPenta families.
Mannie enjoyed nothing more than relaxing by the pool with a cold beer in his backyard, where he spent much of his time gardening, grilling, and building a deck and a gazebo for all to enjoy. He loved riding bikes to the lake, playing golf, and spending time at the beach in Bradenton and Galveston.
Mannie always was helpful to those around him, and very giving of his time and skills. He would do anything for his children - the first to volunteer to remodel a house, paint walls or build out a ceramic store while coaching the girl’s softball teams in his spare time. He especially would get excited if the project involved climbing a ladder and would sometimes just climb a ladder for fun. Mannie was always up for an adventure and loved to visit new places and see new things. He probably drove a million miles over the years, taking his family from Texas to New Hampshire and Florida, driving his children for cross-country moves, and once even driving from Germany to Luxembourg for lunch.
Mannie loved his many fur children, never saying no to a cat his wife, children or even mother-in-law brought home. His best friend Charlie was always by his side and had a special way of gifting Mannie the latest and greatest gadgets. Swearing to never clean a chicken pen again, Mannie helped his wife hatch chickens in their kitchen, and he cared for the many fish, birds, hamsters, guinea pigs, turtles, African clawed frogs, and a bunny that lived at the house over the years.
Mannie appreciated spending his last few years with Mary in Buda, TX, where he enjoyed socializing in his new community and being crowned bingo champion many times. The family would like to thank the Auberge at Onion Creek for the care and compassion they showed our loving husband and father over his final days. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Capital Area Parkinson’s Society in Mannie’s honor.
We love you and miss you Texpa!
