Born November 10,1944 in Corning, New York to Wayne Ernest Brownell and Vivian Ione Mallory Brownell, she was raised in Upstate New York with her sisters, attending schools in Hornell, NY and graduating from Alfred-Almond Central School, Almond, NY in 1962. In her youth she belonged to Camp Fire Girls and sang in the “JanDoLin Trio” with her two best friends, Jan Leathersich and Dorothy Goodrich, who survive. She attended Arnot-Ogden Nursing School and graduated with her R.N. in 1965. She married her high school sweetheart, Peter M Emerson on September 11, 1965. She was blessed with 3 children and lived in Fairfax, Virginia and Austin, Texas. While in Fairfax, in addition to being a homemaker, Linda worked as a Nurse, Real Estate Agent and was the founding President of the Briarwood Homeowner’s Association. Though Linda and Peter's marriage ended in 1995, they remained close friends. Linda also developed a close friendship with Peter's wife, Gloria Blanco. Their enduring affection and mutual respect were a testament to the grace with which she approached life's changes.
She was blessed to find love again with R. Leon Walker, at her happy place, Cedar Creek Lake, in Mabank, Texas. Linda and Leon married on April 12, 2005 and were married for 20 years until his passing on July 20, 2025. Together they enjoyed lake living, spending time with family, traveling, dinners with friends and many games of Mexican Train (that she taught her grandchildren).
Throughout her life, Linda's faith in God was her foundation. She was actively involved in her church communities, sang in church choirs, and found comfort, inspiration and joy in hymns and sacred music. Her faith guided her through life's joys and challenges and was reflected in the kindness, generosity, and compassion she extended to everyone she met.
Linda’s greatest joy was her family. In her own words, “Success was having you kids. It was the most important thing I have done in my life.” She is survived by her three children, Kristine (Danny) Long, Bay City, TX, Robert (Alessandra Serboli) Emerson, Roanoke, TX, Lochie (Matt) Hausman, Cedar Park, TX; her grandchildren, Peter (Kristen) Young, Albany, NY, Chelsea (Jacob) Barry, Romulus, NY, Emily (Kyle) Marecle, Riesel, TX, Dillon Long, Richmond, TX, Jackson and Jake Emerson, Roanoke, TX, and Madison and Landry Hausman, Cedar Park, TX. She is also survived by 5 great grandchildren (Lucas, Levi, Matthew, Maya and Amelia), nieces Jennifer Lambert and Elizabeth Powers and nephews Michael Powers and Jonathan Goodrich along with many cousins. She also remained very close to the Emerson family and is survived by Charles and Linda Emerson, her brother and sister-in-law. In addition to her immediate family, she is also survived by the Walker family which includes Mike and Diane Walker, Cheryl Walker Blair and many bonus grandchildren and great-grandchildren that held a special place in her heart.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Royce Leon Walker, her parents, Wayne and Vivian Brownell, and her sisters, Rita Powers and Jean Goodrich.
Linda leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and gratitude. Near the end of her life, she reflected on her journey and said, "I ended up with a perfect life." Those who knew and loved her understood that by "perfect" she meant a life filled with faith, family, friendship, forgiveness, and love.
