Linda Jean Smith

Linda Jean Smith, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on Friday, February 28th, 2025, at the age of 76. Linda was born on April 10th, 1948, in New London, Connecticut. Linda grew up in Groton, Connecticut, the daughter of John and Jean Trail. She graduated from Saint Bernard’s Girls High School in New London in 1966. While in Groton, she met the love of her life, Mont, across the Thames River at the Coast Guard Academy. Linda and Mont married in 1968 and began a loving and adventurous 57-year marriage.

Linda was a stay-at-home mom when her kids were young as well as a dedicated Coast Guard teammate supporting service member families for 26 years. She later transitioned to working as a retail store manager in both Maui and O’ahu, Hawaii.

Linda enjoyed reading, sewing, traveling, and above all, spending quality time with family and friends. In recent years, she enjoyed visiting Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia, with her family where she was able to escape the Texas summer heat, swimming, floating, boating and relaxing by the firepit patio where she’d savor the beautiful sunsets. Linda was also a member of the Sun City, Georgetown, Neighborhood 46 Book Club.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents, John and Jean Trail, and her daughter Rebecca Lynn Krumwiede who passed away on April 23rd, 2023.

Linda is survived by her loving husband, Mont James Smith; son Jeffrey Matthew Smith (Lisa Ann Mondschein) of Ashburn, Virginia; son-in-law Charles David Krumwiede of Columbia, South Carolina; and her four amazing grandchildren that she loved dearly: Matthew John Krumwiede of San Diego, California; Olivia Jean Smith of Ashburn, Virginia; Katelyn Elizabeth Krumwiede of Charleston, South Carolina; and Ashton Jefferson Smith of Ashburn, Virginia.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass for Linda at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut on April 10th, 2025. Following the mass, Linda will be inurned in the Coast Guard Academy’s columbarium.
