Lawrence S. “Buddy” Holland, 84 of Georgetown, Texas passed away on November 4, 2023. Larry was born to Lawrence Holland and Ida Mae (Savage) Holland on September 25, 1939 in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Larry graduated from New Hanover High School, in Wilmington, North Carolina in 1957 and immediately after high school, served in the United States Army. After his military service, Larry moved to Vestal, New York in 1961 where he met the love of his life, Marie. He worked for IBM in both Owego, New York and then transferred to sunny Austin, Texas in 1977. His career spanned over 25 years and Larry enjoyed being one of the earliest space planning designers to create the IBM campus in Austin and then later, manufacturing management.
In retirement, he used his leadership skills to enhance each neighborhood where he resided. From actively participating on boards, committees, and as a block captain; Larry loved spending time with and taking care of neighbors. He and Marie happily moved to Sun City Georgetown in 2002.
Larry came from humble beginnings and worked tirelessly to create a life filled with love and joy. As a father, husband and friend, Larry was always approachable to talk to, solve problems or help you with a project. Creative, a problem solver, and authentic, Larry always took the initiative to help his friends.
Larry had several passions: gardening, plants, music and art. He was a self-taught artist from a young age and enjoyed painting throughout his life. He worked tirelessly to nurture his back yard into a beautiful oasis of green grass and plants. His love of nature, gardens, and architecture took him and Marie on wonderful trips around the country to visit some of the most stunning properties and gardens. In retirement, one of his favorite pastimes was to hide away and listen to classical music as loud as possible with headphones.
He was an avid bridge player and he loved playing a 3NT card hand. I have no idea what that means; but my mom assures me bridge players everywhere will understand.
His love for his family and neighborhood was the foundation of his life, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Marie and his daughter Daphne Holland and son in law Keath Milligan of Buda, Texas. Larry was preceded in death by his son, Dorian Holland, parents Lawrence S. Holland and Ida Mae Savage, sisters Ruby Lee (Holland) Appleby, Mae Belle (Holland) Potenzino and brother William “Bill” Millerton Holland.
Larry will be laid to rest in Vestal Hills Memorial Park in Vestal, New York.
