Laura Enedelia (Garza) Alvarado, 66, of Leander, Texas passed away peacefully in her home on the morning of September 4th, 2023, after a graceful and courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born on September 30, 1956, in Corpus Christi, Texas to loving parents Valentina Salazar Garza and Gilbert Arredondo Garza.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Gilbert Abel “Butch” Garza Jr., her sister Lidia Elizabeth Moreno, and her niece Lydia Cristina “Kika” Heckard. Laura is survived by her husband Jesus Elizondo Alvarado, her son Samuel Aron Alvarado, her daughter Sarah Michaela Alvarado; sisters Linda Esther Purswell, Lucila Elvira Enderle (William), Lamar Evangelina Baca (Hector), brother Juan Kasiro Garza (Lisa) and many cherished cousins, nieces and nephews.
The foundation of Laura’s life was her faith in Jesus Christ, and she walked in her faith each and every day. Throughout her childhood and youth, she attended Primera Iglesia Bautista in her hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas. She was active in her church community; she sang in the choir and the Joy Trio and made it a priority to attend services anytime she was in town. Laura’s kindness, generous spirit, and infectious joy radiated to everyone around her. Her life exemplified her faith, and you couldn’t help but be touched by her light.
Laura’s passion for learning, helpful nature and problem solving skills led her to a career as an executive administrative professional. During her 20+ year career at 3M, Laura became everyone’s “work mom,” and there wasn’t a problem or puzzle that she couldn’t figure out. Oftentimes, she was the only person who knew how to fix what needed mending or where to find the thing you were seeking. Aside from providing her with a work home and family, 3M also provided Laura with opportunities to serve her community. She was an avid volunteer and mentor with the students and families of Wooten Elementary, a fierce competitor in the annual 3M HOLA salsa contest, and the honorary office baker. Coworkers looked forward to any and all baked goods that frequently made their way into the office-no occasion necessary.
When she wasn’t working, Laura could be found thrift shopping or working on crafts to share with friends, family, and coworkers. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better holiday decorator or someone with more holiday spirit. She loved to travel and spend time with friends and family. She was a passionate foodie-always excited to discover new places, try new food, and meet new people along the way.
Throughout her battle with breast cancer, Laura remained strong in her faith and lived each moment to its fullest. She is and will continue to be loved and missed by all who had the privilege to know and love her.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Laura on September 22, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Primera Iglesia Bautista 1509 Tarlton St, Corpus Christi, TX 78415. The service will be recorded, and light refreshments will be served after the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a charitable contribution in Laura’s name to fund breast cancer research or donate to your local community thrift store. Please wear bright colors to the ceremony as we celebrate Laura’s spirit and honor her life.
