Julieta Rodríguez Hernández passed away on October 31, 2025 in Austin, Texas. Julieta was the second child of seven born to Julio Rodríguez and Juana Ruano on November 25, 1924 in Nuevitas, Camagüey, Cuba.
Julieta, a remarkable woman, dedicated her life to teaching. She graduated from Escuela Normal para Maestros in Camagüey, Cuba, with High Honors. Her passion for education led her to apply for a coveted “plaza,” a prestigious achievement for new graduates without political affiliations.
Julieta’s exceptional grades, promising future performance, and unwavering dedication as a teacher earned her the award. Her first assignment was in Baraguá, a rural community where she quickly won the love and respect of parents, teachers, and students.
Her journey continued with a promotion to a more senior position in Ciego de Ávila. There, she taught third grade at Escuela Nacional Urbana Número Uno for many years and even served as an interim principal for a year.
In 1971, Julieta and her family made a bold move to Dallas, Texas, seeking refuge from the Castro regime. They spent the next 43 years in Dallas, building a rich network of dear friends.
In 2014, Julieta decided to relocate to Miami, Florida, to be with her daughter and son-in-law. In September 2025, she made another move to Austin, Texas, to be with her family.
Julieta’s legacy extends far beyond her teaching career. She is survived by her loving daughter, Dulce Cuello, her devoted son-in-law, Jose Cuello, and their two grandsons, Christopher and Matthew Montoro. She also has a beautiful granddaughter, Alana Montoro, and a sweet great-grandson, Logan Montoro.
In addition to her family, Julieta’s niece and goddaughter, Consuelo Cuello, along with her nieces Gloria Clanton, Edith See, Rosie Herrera, nephews Julio Rodriguez, Ramon Marcos, and Julio Marcos, and a host of great nieces and nephews, remember her fondly.
Julieta’s kindness, humility, love, and unwavering commitment to education and hard work will forever be etched in our hearts. She inspired us all to strive for excellence and make a positive impact on our communities.
A memorial mass will be held in Dallas, Texas, to honor Julieta’s memory. We will cherish her legacy and strive to live by her example.
Vaya con Dios.
