JoAnn Mansur Elliott of Austin, TX passed away on September 28th at the age of 81. She was born on March 7, 1945, in Tucumcari, NM, to George and Irene Mansur and big brother, Phil. She grew up in Albuquerque and Hobbs, NM.
While at the University of New Mexico, she met Bruce and they began dating. She was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority and later graduated from the UNM with a degree in Mathematics. They married in August of 1965.
During her lifetime, JoAnn held a variety of jobs. Some of which were being a math tutor, a bookkeeper, selling cruises, giving newborn babies baths, working in the church finance office, and working at IBM. She was in a University of Texas program for Women in Science when she was hand-picked by IBM, at a time when very few women were in the profession.
JoAnn was actively involved in the Searchers Sunday School class and the Prayer Ministry at Bethany. She was known for her simplicity, faithfulness, peaceful demeanor, infectious smile, and heart of gold.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce, of 61 years, her daughters Kristin (John) and Teri (John), her six adored grandchildren, David, Lauren (Tony - fiancé), Stephen, Sarah, Jacob, and Evan.
The family wishes to thank Hospice Austin for their care when her vascular dementia progressed. Despite being on hospice, her death was unexpected. She died peacefully at home for which we are grateful.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Bethany United Methodist Church on Saturday, Nov. 21st at 10:30 am. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her honor to Bethany School.
