Jane Wilkinson Garth, 88, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026, in Austin, Texas. Jane lived a full and spirited life marked by lasting friendships, a meaningful and successful real estate career, travel, adventure, and, most importantly, the love she gave to and received from those closest to her.
Jane was born in Dallas, Texas, on August 1, 1937, to Dr. Wallace “Wally” Wilkinson and Edna B. “Dolly” Wilkinson, the eldest of four children. She grew up in Dallas and spent part of her childhood on a farm outside the city, where she developed a love of horseback riding. After graduating from Highland Park High School in Dallas at 16, she attended Sophie Newcomb College, now part of Tulane University, in New Orleans before returning to Texas and earning her degree from the University of Texas in 1958.
Jane married in Dallas and began the next chapter of her life as a mother to two children. In 1964, the family moved to Houston, where Jane raised her children, built a wide circle of treasured friends, and made her home for the next fifty-five years. She went on to develop a long and successful career in Houston real estate, helping people find the right place to call home with her signature confidence, elegance, charm, and persistence.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Thomas Garth, with whom she shared a life filled with family, laughter, travel, and companionship. In 2019, she moved to Austin to be near her children.
Jane is survived by her children, Karen Orsak and her husband, Lane, and Kent Myatt; her grandson, Will Myatt, all of Austin, Texas; her sisters, Peggy Hawkins of Lindale, Texas, and Kay Tatum of Conroe, Texas; her brother, Wallace “Bud” Wilkinson, Jr., of Dallas, Texas; many beloved nieces; and her stepson, Tanner Garth, and his wife, Terri, of Houston, Texas.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers, nurses, and staff at Querencia Barton Creek in Austin for the kindness, compassion, and attentive care they provided Jane throughout her residency.
She will be remembered for her warmth, elegance, determination, generosity, and the deep devotion she showed to her family and friends.
In honor of Jane’s memory, the family suggests donations to MD Anderson Cancer Center, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or an animal rescue organization of one’s choice.
