Gerald “Pep” Pepin of Austin Texas, formerly of South Burlington, Vermont, passed away on April 27th, 2023 at the age of 90. Gerald was born on December 21st, 1932 in Winooski, Vermont where he grew up one of seven with five brothers and two sisters. Gerald and his siblings helped to provide for the family as his father died at a young age. Gerry was a big brother and hero to many and a champion for many who looked to him for support.
Gerald served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War with two of his brothers also serving during the war. Gerald served his term and was honorably discharged. Gerald married Mary Gamelin on November 19, 1955 and settled down in South Burlington, Vermont for 40 years before moving to Round Rock, Texas. Gerald worked for the South Burlington school district for 30 years and was the Director of Maintenance. Gerald was a beloved Manager and worker and was known for his sense of urgency and competency on the job as well as his empathy and understanding with peers and subordinates. During later years, Gerald spent several years working as an usher for the Round Rock Express baseball team at Dell Diamond Stadium.
Gerald and Mary were actively involved in activities at their church, St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church.
He is preceded in death by his father, George, Sr., mother, Olive Lavigne; brothers, George, Jr., Bernard and Paul; and sisters, Constance Anderson and Norma Thurber. He is also preceded by his father-in-law, George, and mother-in-law, Evelyn Gamelin.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; son, David, and wife, Jodie; grandson, Andrew, and wife, Allison; several nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.
Gerry impacted many people over the years and he and Mary’s generosity to his siblings’ families and their sharing of their time and talents with many will be forever remembered. They left a mark on many lives as parents, siblings, godparents and mentors.
The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice for the care and compassion they showed him in his final days.
A Memorial Mass is scheduled for Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 11:00am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 9500 Neenah Ave., Austin, Texas 78717. Lunch will follow next door in the PAC.
