

Gary Matthew Reynolds, born April 15, 1945, in Greenville, Texas and died on September 8, 2026, in Austin, Texas. He grew up in the “Golden Triangle” graduating from Port Arthur High School, Lamar Tech University and UT School of Law.
He was predeceased by his parents Iris and J.C. Reynolds and his only brother Jon C. Reynolds. Early on and throughout his life, Gary became an integral participant in the families of his close friends.
He took his personal relationships seriously. He was married 54-years to his wife Sharyn and was fully involved in the active parenting of their two sons, Matthew Garrett and Aaron Kyle Reynolds.
An adoring Grandfather and Father-in-law, he will be remembered as Daddy, Dad or “Pa Paw” to Matthew, his wife Jana and grandson Ace Woodson Reynolds of Dallas; as well as to Aaron, his wife Rebecca, grandson Avery Carlisle and granddaughter Willow Eden Lee of Austin.
His warm, kind and open-hearted personality, along with his great sense of humor, allowed him to continue making new friendships throughout his life. This was especially true over the last 3 years, after he and Sharyn moved to Westminster Manor, where he found great joy in opportunities for new connections with both staff and neighbors.
A diligent worker, Gary was engaged in the private practice of law as an Attorney-Mediator, in both Austin and Smithville, Texas, spanning more than five decades of service and peacemaking, through problem solving and conflict resolution. He was an Elder in both the First Presbyterian Church of Smithville and the University Presbyterian Church in Austin, as well as a volunteer on various Presbyterian committees and ministries from Central Texas to the Rio Grande Valley.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 24th at The University Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas, with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall.
Parking will be available at the UT Co-Op Garage, located at 2214 San Antonio Street in Austin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts. can be made to UPLIFT, a ministry of University Presbyterian Church, serving our homeless and less fortunate neighbors, where Gary was previously a volunteer.
