Don graduated from Luzerne High School in June of 1954, and soon after joined the United States Air Force, where he served in the United States, Germany and England as an Administrative Specialist from 1954 until his Honorable Discharge in 1963. Don thoroughly enjoyed his service and had many fantastic memories of his time in the military with his fellow airmen and women both here and abroad.
Don worked as an Office Clerk and Accounting Specialist over the years for several companies located in both Pennsylvania and Texas, until his retirement in 1999 when he moved permanently to Texas to be near his children and grandchildren.
Donald was a huge sports fan and he religiously followed and cheered on his Sinton Pirates, San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Cowboys, UT Longhorns, Texas Tech Red Raiders and Texas Rangers. He and his son attended many sporting events together and he loved spending time with his family outdoors in his beloved Texas. He was a talented darts and pool player, as well as a passionate and powerful basketball player. Don was an avid reader who enjoyed history and music – his favorites were Louis Armstrong, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Virgie and William Meyers, his brothers, Bob, Bill, and Jim, and his stepdaughters Ruby Hesseltine and Priscilla Ward.
Don is survived by his daughter, Dona Dye and son-in-law Steve Warwick, his son John Meyers, his grandchildren, Dominic Dye and Dakota Dye, his former wife and friend Hazel Graham, his sister Jeanne Mickla (ne Meyers) of PA, and several Nieces, Nephews and Great Nieces and Nephews.
Don will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his ability to memorize an astounding amount of sports trivia and facts of history, a strong Italian spirit, his service to our Country and his deep love of his family.
The family would like to thank Magnolia Hospice and his nurse Haley for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in his final days. We would also like to thank the Neptune Society for their care and support.
Don will be cremated, and his ashes scattered in the Gulf of Mexico by his children at a date to later be determined.
