Delores was born April 28, 1941, in Kermit, TX to Marvin Speight and Cleo Haston.
Delores lived her life with a deep love and kindness for others, a never-ending sense of humor, and a passion for all that life presented to her. She never met a stranger and made everyone she encountered feel seen and appreciated. Delores loved music and dancing, especially Louis Prima, Tracy Chapman, and Etta James. Anytime Delores heard music, she was up and dancing (and often pulling others out to dance with her). She was always the life of the party. It brings great joy knowing that she is now dancing in heaven with her Dad and Mom.
Delores loved traveling with loved ones, taking her children and grandchildren to California and Florida. She covered her refrigerator with magnets from all her trips, creating a map that represented her great adventure of life.
Some of Delores' favorite pastimes were playing games with family and friends, volunteering, and meeting new people at the VFW in Odessa and Kerrville, TX. Family was everything to Delores with five children, six grandchildren, one great grandson, and a sister,
brother, and their families, whom she loved so very much. She loved family reunions, always planning the next one before the current one was over. Delores was adored by friends, those that she knew for a lifetime and those that she met only a few months ago.
Delores is preceded in death by her father, mother, and son, Terry. She is survived by her brother, Malcolm Speight; sister, Pamela (Rick) Henegar; sons and daughters, Tamara (Mark) Jamael, Wade Van Ryan, Vance (Lori) Van Ryan, and Velvet Van Ryan.
In the forthcoming weeks we'll have a celebration of life for Delores in the Austin area.
