David’s passion for life, laughter, and fellowship knew no bounds. David leaves behind devoted family and friends who are forever blessed by the joy, support, and influence he brought to their lives.
David grew up as the youngest of 11 siblings. He was an army veteran and lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. After David married the love of his life, Ethna (Ticky), they shared a life together in Mankato, MN, Tyler, MN, Bella Vista, AR, and Georgetown, TX. David spent years as an educator, school administrator, and grant administrator, working to serve the community while forming lifelong friendships.
David’s greatest love was that for his beautiful wife, Ticky. They loved each other unconditionally and supported one another with their complete hearts. When wearing matching anniversary shirts, people would approach and ask to hear their love story. It was a story they loved to tell, smiling and laughing each time. He loved to listen to her play piano, attend concerts, and travel with her.
David was a family man first. If you knew him, you would have heard about his five grandchildren. His love for each grandchild knew no bounds and his pride in them had no limits. He loved each one immensely.
David was a life-long student with a zest for life. A true and forever educator, he always had a story to tell and lesson to impart, whether it be one of success or a lesson learned. His passion for woodworking, reading, traveling, and cooking allowed him to express his love for life. He made countless meals and items that he gifted to bring joy and support those around him. There was not a pie or meal that he would not attempt to recreate at home after a meal out. He loved to tell you all about his pursuit and watch you sample his creation, followed by a big laugh and determination to try again.
David loved to teach, even when his students weren’t serious, such as his grandson singing while fishing, or his granddaughter putting a hole in the wall with a hammer while “helping.”
He was a consummate mentor, role model, and friend. The lessons and support he shared changed lives. He believed in working hard, but that it was equally important to enjoy life to the fullest: don’t waste one single moment.
David was delightfully funny, even when he didn’t mean to be. Even then, he would laugh his hearty and contagious laugh at himself. We’ll forever miss the stories he would share, even if we heard them more than once. “Did I ever tell you about the time . . .”
We all wish we could hear them one more time.
David exemplified and preached forgiveness. Every day was a new beginning; a new chance to forgive yourself and others. David once made a mistake in a woodworking gift for a grandson, then chose to leave the mistake, writing an inscription to his grandson that we all make mistakes; we don’t have to be perfect. Remember to keep going and have fun while pursuing your crafts.
Every day, David got up and steadfastly worked to spread joy and support those around him. He gave all that he had to the best of his extraordinary capability every single day.
His impact on our lives extends far and wide. He was genuine, brave, dedicated, and generous.
We are left with a lifetime of memories of his laughter and lessons. We feel the profound grief of his loss, but immense gratitude that we were so incredibly blessed and lucky to have shared time with this incredible person.
We will forever miss him.
