David Michael Wedding of Bastrop, TX, passed away on October 2, 2018, at the age of 75, surrounded by his loving family. Mike was born in Akron, OH, on December 1, 1942, to Joseph Eugene Wedding and Mary Josephine Wedding. The eldest of 5 brothers, he spent his early years helping his parents and brothers on their family farm in York Center, OH. Mike graduated with a BS degree from Findlay College and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1965-1970, earning the rank of Captain. He served a tour of duty flying CH-46s during the Vietnam War. While stationed at the MCAS New River, Jacksonville, NC, Mike met Patty Jean Effron, and they were married on October 10, 1969. After Mike left the Marine Corps, the couple moved to York Center before relocating to Dallas in 1978 where he joined friends in the mortgage banking business. In 1990, the family moved to Bastrop when Mike and his partner, John Zech, purchased Pine Forest Golf Club.
Mike will be remembered as a man of integrity; all that was needed to close a deal or make an agreement was a handshake. He was a man of his word, and his life was marked with generosity to others. A man whose spirit reflected God’s love, Mike was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son, and loyal friend.
He spent many hours playing the guitar and piano, singing, and listening to music; he was part of various choirs, musical groups, and for the last 25 years, was a member of the Circle Band from the First United Methodist Church of Bastrop. His musical talent was rare, and, during his life, he graciously shared his gift of music.
Mike is survived by by his wife of 49 years, Patty, and his three children:
Alison, Jo Beth, and Matthew and his wife, Susan, and their two children, Brandon and Oliver. He is survived by four brothers and their families: Joe Wedding and wife Meredythe, Stanley Wedding and wife Jean, Geoffrey Wedding, and Marc Wedding.
A Celebration of Mike’s life will be held at River Valley Christian Fellowship Church, 1224 West Highway 71, Bastrop, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 27th.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mike’s memory to The Honor Choir of Bastrop (2702 Pecan St., Bastrop, TX, 78602) or the Arnold Palmer Medical Center Foundation (3160 Southgate Commerce Blvd., Suite 50, Orlando, Florida, 32186.
