Cynthia Joy Toombs was born February 1, 1949 in Gillespie, Illinois. She moved to Texas with her family and attended Bellaire High School. As a young adult, she lived in Houston, then left the city life behind to enjoy raising three children in the quiet beauty of the Texas Hill Country. In her youth, she loved music, dancing, and parties with friends and family.
She later moved to the Austin suburb of Cedar Park, where she married the love of her life, Jerry Ponesmith. They cherished the frequent company of children and grandchildren in their cozy Cedar Park condo.
Although Joy and Jerry’s time together was relatively short in the span of a lifetime, it was the perfect cherry on top of the sundae. After Jerry sadly passed away in 2020, Joy continued to treasure time with family and friends. She busied herself maintaining the ever flourishing jungle of plants she and Jerry cultivated together. She also frequently worked many jigsaw puzzles, and cared for her fur babies - two cats.
Joy quietly passed away on Monday, March 11th. Her two daughters were by her side, holding her hands as she left this earthly plane. She was deeply loved by so many, and is survived by her children Mishell Steel, Craig Lee, and Heather Kiec; her grandchildren Brittany Steel, Zachary Finkel, Autumn Beltran, Colewyn Saenz, Alyssa Walthers, Nate Walthers, Mateo Laurel, Pandora Lee, and Emrys Lee; great-grandchildren Mark Beltran, Evangeline Beltran, and Kennedy Sandoval; and siblings Robert Toombs, Judy Toombs, and Michael Toombs.
Family was always at the center of her life - a legacy she passed on to all of those she has left behind… She will be dearly missed!
