Charlene “Charley” Winter of Round Rock, TX passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at the age of 84. She was born on April 23, 1939 in Gatesville, TX to proud parents Charles Martin and Laura Mae (Katie) Henson. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
Charley was a gifted student and high school valedictorian who graduated with Honors from the University of Texas with a Bachelor's degree in Radio and Television Broadcasting in 1961.
In 1965, Charley married John Winter in Pleasanton, TX. When John finished college at Oklahoma’s Central State University and took a job working for Libby-Owens-Ford glass company in Toledo,OH. He took a position at the Los Angeles, CA office and they moved to nearby Santa Ana, where they had their children, Laura in 1969 and Steve in 1971. Charley's career then took them across the country where she worked in various radio and television advertising roles for several stations in San Antonio,TX (WOAI), Saginaw, MI (WNEM), Fresno, CA (KSEE) and Beaumont, TX (KBMT).
Upon retirement, Charley and John had many adventures, traveling, working and spending time in their RV. They lived in such places as Washington, Maine, south Texas and northern California.
She was actively involved in square dancing and was an avid UT Football fan (Hook‘em Horns!). She never met a stranger, enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and had a great sense of humor.
Charley was preceded in death by her parents She is survived by John, siblings Richard, Helen, Frank, and Ray, daughter Laura, son Steve, as well as grandsons Noah and Jonah.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at First Baptist Church Round Rock on Monday November 6th at 2:00 PM.
